In the 1.4.1 version of the launcher, I run it from my Windows 7 desktop shortcut icon, but it takes up to two minutes to appear. Is there a known issue with Windows 7 and the FTB launcher? Because I have to wait for it to appear on the screen, I sometimes find I've launched two copies of it, which is not something I want to happen.

When launched, the launcher does not create an application process or a window that can be seen as an Application window in the Windows 7 Task Manager screen. I'm not sure if this is because it's a Java application, however, I have noticed that there were some launcher warnings about Java 8, but when updating my Java version, Java 8 is not yet available for public release but could be manually downloaded from Oracle's website if required.

Updating my Java version on this PC also seemed to make the warnings about Java 8 disappear, at least for the present, but does still not do anything about the delay between the launcher window appearing and the double-click on the launcher shortcut.

Is this launcher behavior repeatable? Yes. Most definitely yes.

Cheers ...

What firewall and/or adblocker and/or proxy and/or privace software are you using?

There is two things which cause this behavior.
1) End-users' network blocks network access to http://stats.feed-the-beast.com/. Blocking is implemented badly and network does not notify users' program after dropping connection => Launcher will wait untill network connection timeout.
2) There is bug in new launcher code which cause launcher to be blocked untill network connection timeout

These two things are happening simultaneously and it will cause slow launcher startups.

HOTFIX: disable google analytics tracking in launcher's advanced options tab

proper fix for 2) is already tested and committed in code repo, but there is other minor fixes which will be added before 1.4.2 is released.

Well, I don't think it's the first one, as when I tried to access that page with my browser here by opening it in a new browser window, it opened within four seconds. I'm not sure if the standard Windows 7 firewall could really block anything that wanted to get through anyway, being it's from Microsoft. Not AFAIK using an adblocker, and not AFAIK using any proxy server although there might be a slow telstra proxy server handling things on their end since that's the network I'm using. I don't know what privacy software I'm using just Kaspersky Internet Security 20102 for AV protection with a 2013 licence so it's updated automatically anyway.

Pastebin of most recent launcher log if that's of any help: http://pastebin.com/kU5yxLhC

The most recent version of the launcher fixes this problem. Where's a lock button when you need one? :D
