lan server failing

Details of the issue:
im trying to host a LAN server, says the server launches fine but when my misses trys to connect it just times out. im on a Windows PC and shes using a Mac Book incase that may help find a solution.​

can U ping from macbook Ur pc?
can U "telnet %pc_ip% 25565" from macbook?
can U connect from other PC to server?

im not gonna lie, im not sure what all that means :S could you give me detail for the first two things? the last i cant answer as all we have is my PC and her Mac Book

i tryed doin that and it instantly didnt connect (didnt even wait to time out). i disconnected both the public and private firewalls
