I have watched a lot of vids on the Quarry laser and see how smooth it moves. However mine seems to start and stop a ton. I have an amazing internet connection, am playing on single player, and I have a monster of a pc. Am using FTB mindcrack launcher just unsure why the laser is so jerky. Just wondering how people get it to move so nicely and so smooth

Feeding it a constant power input is the best way to do that.

Start up a creative world, spawn in a "redstone energy cell" and a quarry, place the quarry down, and then place the redstone energy cell right next to the quarry. The quarry will then get 100MJ/t (it really only needs 50MJ/t as anything after that has shown to do nothing to the block output speed) constantly (until the cell runs dry, which will happen fairly quickly) but should be as smooth as butter (glued onto the back of a road runner, as it's going to be fast as well).

holy fast responses. Ok

dc0110 right now I have 6 advanced solar power running to a bat box running to an electrical engine. I did this because i was using Sterling engines but putting in constant coal for a huge landmark quarry was getting annoying and I have not gotten to the point of creating a fuel refinery yet. I figured that is all it needed but maybe it is not feeding it enough power?

Guswut: Energy wise I have Current Output of the engine 2mj/t Stored jumps all around and Heat 135C So from what you are saying Guswut I need a lot more than that to get to 50mj? That would speed it up? The redstone energy cell would be something I will try however it sounds like I will be running into the same problem of having to baby it. I would like this thing to run automatically and future quarrys also. Is there anyway to do that filling thouse 50mj requirements?

Bevo Not sure what tps is I am runing the FTB Launcher v 1.2.2 with the Mindcrack Pack (v8.1.1) Minecraft version 1.4.7 by the FTB Team....I am not on a server but rather started a single player game so I could start learning Mindcrack.

It's using the power faster than it can send it, especially since the solars send power in "packets." You'd be better off putting a redstone energy circuit between the engines and quarry to give it a buffer. 2mj/t is really low imo for a quarry. I run them at 15mj at minimum.

what is using the power the quarry or the engine?. I only have one electrical engine on it. do you have a good tutorial on the redstone circuite you are talking about? or you just talking about a little redstone line on the ground?

Get a real engine to power it. An electrical engine doesn't give it anywhere as much power as a quarry needs. For comparison, your engine provides 2 MJ/t (without upgrades). For a quarry you want something on the order of 40-50. Build magmatic, combustion, or steam engines to power it instead.

I could do steam engines only want to know how to keep them fed automatically :P btw tried that redstone cell....omg

If you're using steam engines or other engines that require cooling (a water feed) be careful.
Although the quarry has a built in chunk loader, you may place them in a different chunk and they could unload.
Or your water supply could unload, this often ends with a bit of a bang and a lack of engines.

Either a chunk loader or the old fashioned work out the chunk boundries.
