yeah I know its from thaumcraft 3 and I know that they spawn quite often as just one spire but i've never seen one this size or with a chest is it a common occurrence or is it something I might need to worry about because this is in my quarry age

They're guarded by mobs which are not hostile until you are. Similar to many people, in that respect. They'll leave you alone as long as you don't disturb them. I have wonder whether they're going to be "altered" at some point to attack thieves.
