I played minecraft back before official release and never really got into mods. I've installed infinity because I heard it was pretty balanced and it seems to have a lot of the good mods that I've heard about.

The problem is between vanilla enchanting, botania, and various tinker's stuff it's a lot of information. Is there a guide that I failed to notice or should I just spend some time reading about the mods individually?

Also, start with what you do know... Basic vanilla minecraft. Then slowly look at some of the machines or specific mods. For example thaumcraft and botania have excellent in game documentation. Also use NEI. It will tell you how to craft most (not all) items. If you have question do a little searching on the internet. Also ask questions here if you can't find anything.

I would chose a couple to start.
that doesnt mean you cant play infinity or other big modpack
just focus on a couple
