OK, so this problem is only an issue in my current save world. I don't know exactly when it started as I had an update for DW 1.6.4 yesterday and I also had a crash. The crash caused my save to be deleted, but I had a backup from earlier, so I could replace the level.dat files, that way, all that I lost was my current inventory.
So the problem is that I can't punch things like dirt etc. I can only mine things when I have a suitable tool in hand. Even wood and leaves can't be harvested unless I have suitable tool.
Grass, Reeds, Torches, Crops all work fine, but dirt, gravel, melons all don't work. If you don't have a suitable tool in hand, then you can't mine/harvest the block. I can use a pickaxe to harvest wood/leaves though.
I created a new world to test it and it was fine in that, so it's not the mod pack, just something in this save world.
