Is there a better alternative mod to Dynamic Lighting?

I want to enjoy the Dynamic Lighting mod, but the fact of the matter is, it's waaaaay too laggy. I need a mod that allows a portable light source without the inherent lag, maybe one that runs client side.

Dynamic lighting is inherently laggy because of how it works, that is using the mod of that name or using another method. You are constantly having to redraw lighting with every step you take, that's very CPU intensive.

You can try Optifine, I believe it has its own dynamic lighting option, but I don't foresee it being any less stressful, aside from Optifine generally making the graphics easier on the system.
