Basically, it's tough to scan through modpack lists to see if a pack has a particular mod or to compare two packs. Since the launcher window isn't resizable, we're stuck with 5 1/2 lines of text to tell us what's there. Putting the logo in the scrolling area keeps the branding just as visible, but makes scanning much much easier.
