IC2 Steam generators completely useless?

So, I ran some tests and I got that the best way to produce EU from steam generators is using fliquid heat exchagers, which use lava to generate heat. But using the same amount of lava give a little bit more EU by just pouring it in a geothermal generators. So... are steam generators of any use to generate EU? Or are they just usefull for steam and distilled water?
 
The IC2 5x5x5 nuclear reactor produces "hot coolant" that you pump out to produce steam to produce EU.
