How to delete an item with an editor?

I encountered a bug in redpower managers and now I can't log into my world anymore. I tried using MCEdit to delete the manager but it replaced all my non vanilla blocks with vanilla ones. WorldEdit doesn't seem to work on my PC. Are there any other options to get my world back?

You may not like this... but shut down the game, remove Red Power. Log into the world. Log back out, restore Red Power. Log in.
All RP blocks will be removed from the world. MC edit doesn't understand the extended item range (to my limited understanding of it)

If that's not an option you could also use MC edit to delete the chunk it was in, and the world will regenerate it.

Are you getting a client crash or server crash? Is it single player or multiplayer?

If it's a client crash in a server, delete your player.dat file. If it's single player, the same player.dat file might exist - if not copy the world to a smp setup and do it there.
If it's a server that's crashing, you're pretty limited but it would be surprising if the server is crashing.

Also you may want to file it in the bug reports.
Also to note/warn, by doing this you'll loose all the items / location of your player.
