I also think the Transformer which is right in front of you is pointing at the wrong direction, the 3-dotted side should point towards the rod or boom.

Also yes, you need iron-fences.

For maximum results, place the lightning rod at bedrock, then build a 1x1 tower of iron fences to the skylimit. Then, connet each 3-dot side of the lightning rod DIRECTLY to the 3 dot sides of four HV transformers. Do not use wires.

Its not lightning that activates the lightning rod. The way a rod works, is that, during a thunder storm, it has a chance to generator power and spawn a lightning bolt above it. Because of this, it only works with legit thunderstorms, not just plain lightning. Charged ages, TF portals, and TC flux are just lightning. Real storms work, NEI storms just starts a legit storm, so it works. Same for iodine, it triggers a legit storm, so it can be used to generator tons of storms and get lots of eu. (Although i thought that iodine just made it rain, not storm...there is a difference between raining and storming.)

Lost as always
Or, if you're feeling particularly cheaty, just change the .cfg file so that you no longer need a storm for it to generate Eu.

Honestly, there's a reason Alblaka tends to fry newbies who suggest this on the IC2 forums. It's yet another reason I don't use this mod.

You are using metal post from railcraft. As most people said, use the ic2 iron fence.

So, the new packs are out.

How can we generate the real storms required to power the lightning rod now?

Forestry's Rainmaker with iodine charges should work. If you have Thaumcraft 3, you could also potentially dump tons of flux into the atmosphere until it starts raining, though you could also just get giant zombies and other crazy things. Those are the only things I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.
