How do I recharge a redstone energy cell

I searched the TE wiki, and tried some things myself, but it doesn't work.

I have several engines outputting power into a redstone conduit, leading to an empty redstone energy cell. The engines are building up internal power, but not releasing it. The energy cell stays empty...

I'm sure I'm doing it wrong, question is: how wrong :-)
 
By default the conduits connected to a cell will only draw power. Hit that part with a wrench and you should see the little arrow that's pointing away from the cell point towards it and it should charge.
 
right click the conduit that touches the engine with a BC-wrench/crescent hammer. This should put the conduit into output mode. They have to modes in or output indicated by little arrows (blue/orange, don't know which one is which right now)
