Ok for days now i been trying to understand the new mystcraft. i haven't played it extensively since before the whole pages thing. So I've watched direwolfs video and many others on youtube. i've read all the mystcraft pages on ftbwiki and also the mystcraft site itself. I've followed every single step as closely as i can. Yet every time i create an age the way i think it's supposed to be according to everything i've read, it keeps ending up random!! with completely different features then what i put in....

I know it's something stupid i'm doing wrong but i don't know what it is.. i'm at my last straw here and decided to ask my fellow FTB'ers for help... Since mystcraft forums may not help me playing on an older version (IE. FTB ultimate recommended version).

1. I got pages together that i think would make a stable age.
2. i put pages in order on the book binder table and create the descriptive book
3. i put descriptive book on a stand and enter..
4. i'm in an age with completely random elements compared to what i put in.

I've tried many combinations but this is one example i just did a moment ago and here is order
1. Single Biome
2. extreme hills edge biome
3. standard terrain
4. normal sun
5. dark moon
6. dark stars
7. no weather
8. bright lighting
9. clear modifiers

And nothing i get a tiled biome with ice/tundra. it's eternal night time it seems. etc. etc. Last time i did exact same modifiers just thinking i was unlucky and got a caveworld with at least 3 different biomes. another time i got an ocean biom..... etc. etc.

Can anyone please help!. i know this is probably not the forum to ask help in, but i'm just looking for friendly advice/tips. I play alone mostly so i don't have other people to ask in-game.

Sounds like a bug, I saw something about it somewhere else recently. It might've been fixed since the release of the version you're using.
I can only suggest that you either try the same set of symbols over and over (you can copy pages out of descriptive books, by the way), or updating Mystcraft.
You might also have some luck with adding some terrain features, such as lakes, caves, or tendrils.

Yeah, the thing you are doing wrong is playing ultimate. It is a bug that exists in ultimate when creating new ages. Apparently you need to delete your region data whenever you generate an age and re-visit it to have it generate correctly. So strange.

Yea. i have been coping the pages and making books over and over. I've also tried adding some modifiers like colors and lakes and tried flat world etc. but in order to try and diagnose the problem i'm trying to get a very very basic world working first....

I'm getting extremely frustrating with FTB. I been playing the "recommended" version of FTB for i believe over a month now. I've played minecraft a lot previously so i've quickly learned most of the mods. but i'm hugely disappointing that a recommended version of the mod-pack has mixers that crash the server and forces you not to play with factorization mod. there is issues with trying to disenchant vile swords that crash the game making that a bit disappointing and now.... after days and days of collecting pages in random ages to make my own stable and unique age i'm finding out that mystcraft is possibly bugged too...

Doesn't FTB hvae a test pack that is throughly tested before pushing it to recommended? why are these updates being released and pushed forward that has MAJOR bugs that prevent you from using that MAJOR mod-pack? The whole reason i decided to put all my time into recommended version was becuase i didn't want to deal with issues from playing a beta or not as well tested version or an older version that isn't updated with the Wiki and makes it too difficult to play. But i'm starting to think it may just be easier to download all mods manually like i used to :(

It would also be far far far less frusterating if the Wiki's actually told you before you waste a huge amount of time on a mod that it's BROKE. Why doesn't facotirzation mod page on the wiki or even mixre page say... oh btw this item WILL CRASH YOUR SERVER in current RECOMMENDED vresion. or that mystcraft is compeltely broke so dont' bother spending days collecting pages. or btw don't bother trying to disenchant vile swords and wrrack your brain trying to figure out why your game keeps crashing.....

I loved the idea of FTB but i've had nothing but frusteration. Has FTB always been this buggy or is it just recently having issues? is it just 1 or 2 guys that test things before releasing it or something? i'd imagine a huge team testing things since it seems tens of thousands of people rely on tehm on thier servres. I'd kill myself if i was running a 100-300+ FTB server and everytime an update came out i had to disable mods and items in game and have people leaving my server in droves due to these issues that could be completely avoided by not using a mod-pack.. though it's simply too much work for a solo guy to maintain a mod-pack without much programming knowledge etc...

Also what has ever happened to the MOD-API that has been promised by Notch over and over and over again for years. It was promised that there would be a mod api that would allow us to connect to servers and automatically download mod versions from those servers etc. etc. and avoid all this hassle in the first place. Like counter-strike when it first came out was frustrating since you had to have exact same mod versions as server you played on, but Valve fixed that by allowing you to download the individual files you needed for each server, now you didn't have to hunt down all these mods for each servre you connected to anymore. Notch promised this years and years ago. people kept asking what's taking so long and he would say it's the NEXT THING he's working on. yet i don't see it yet.... sigh

Actually just doing a quick google search confirms that they have plans on allowing people to downloda mod files from the minecraft client itself. yet i still dont see this! Here is just one page that states this on first page of google: http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/680-breaking-news-modding-api-updates/

  • How will mods be distributed by modders, and downloaded by players?
Players will be able to download mods from the game client itself.

Funny... I thought Notch mentioned this many times back before minecraft was even released and yet still nothing.. So frustrating because this could all be so much easier and better if only he kept this promises. but i'm sure he's just relaxing in his mansion some whree now.. too much work to update something that already made him millions.

Well I checked your order over and checked it to my guide and it should be absolutely fine!
Here's what to do.
Make the exact same age.
Exit MC.
Delete the Dimension Folder from your Save (REMEMBER WHICH NUMBER THE AGE WAS BEFORE YOU DELETE!).
Re-enter the age.
It should work.

Thank you for your help. Sorry about all my rants. just bit frustrating when running into big issues like this. I'll try that for now, it will work for me since i run my own server for my household but sucks for those poeple running larger serviecs since players can only do this if they have access to server files.....

It works. I just deleted everything in the DIM-Myst* folder for the last world i had made and started server back up and it created the world i made. I did goof on one thing though. i tried to make it internally noon time by putting zero time in front of noon page but it's nighttime, I'm sure that's just something i did wrong but now that i cane make the ages I'll figure it out!

A [Zero Length] [Noon] [Normal Sun] should be locked directly overhead- this sounds like a very similar bug that may not be fixed by deleting the DIM-Myst* folder.
Alternatively, you could try [Full Length] [Rising] [Normal Sun] [Full Length] [Setting] [Normal Sun], which should create two suns such that one is always in the sky when the other isn't. If you specify the same direction for both (i.e. [Full Length] [East] [Rising] [Normal Sun] [Full Length] [East] [Setting] [Normal Sun]), they will always be opposite each other in the sky, like the sun and moon in the Overworld.
Unless, of course, the same bug causes this to not work.

I've heard about a 1.5 Beta pack (in which this bug would probably be fixed), but I haven't seen it on the launcher anywhere.

Because it's a temp pack, and not really an official one, you have to enter a private pack code for it. Select Private Pack, and enter either 152wgt or 152ngt to get it with or without gregtech respectively.

It should be noted that there are a number of changes to Mystcraft in this version. You must make a linking panel ( using the ink mixer ), and place it at the beginning when making a descriptive book. Linking books are made by crafting a link panel with a piece of leather. ( Note: This gives an "unlinked book. Right click wherever you wish to link the book to. )

Biomes should be listed BEFORE the biome controller in the newer version. Previously it did not matter.

Finally: A small amount of randomness has been added. It's fairly uncommon to get exactly what you enter, but it's usually something trivial that is different. However, other times it is pretty major...such as the biome.

Also, clear modifiers no longer removes all instability caused by any hanging modifiers. Instead, it removes a percentage.

There are a number of other changes, including numerous fixes. You'll want to check out the changelog for any more details.

Naturally, the change from 1.4.7 to 1.5.2 sees a ton of changes from other mods as well.

EDIT: Almost forgot. I have only seen 1 serious issue so far myself, and it is definitely something to be aware of. You must be careful where you point your Minium Stone. If you are holding it and look at certain items from other mods, you will get an instant crash. You'll need some to break/move the item causing, or perhaps TP you away, or something similar before you can log in. For me, this happened with something from Mystcraft, as I crashed just as I walked into my Mystcraft room. Had a friend clear everything in there and I was able to log in. I've also heard this happening with Natura doors.
