Where Do I Post This?: A Forum-goer's Guide to Posting New Threads

Probably the most difficult forum rule for new members to the FTB forums to obey is rule #3: Post topics in the appropriate forums. This comes about because of some confusion as to what exactly is the correct forum for a given post. This guide is to help you in identifying when and where to start your new topics.

When do I start a new thread?

The FTB Forums receive a large volume of new threads and posts on a daily basis. Many of the new threads created are actually already covered in other threads previously posted. Here are a couple tips you should try before starting a new thread:
  • Use the Search function. If you can think up a couple key words for what you're looking to ask or share, run them through the Search bar before starting a new thread. You may run into somebody else discussing a similar topic or issue already.
  • Check the first couple pages of posts in the forum. Below you can find out how to identify where to post, but before you make that post, check the first couple or few pages of posts in that forum and just see if there is something already posted on the same or a related topic.
By doing these two things, you can cut down on the wait times for your questions to be answered and not be left wondering why nobody wants to discuss the topic you spent so much time thinking about.

Where does my post go?
  • Are you posting about a bug in a specific modpack available on the FTB Launcher? Go to The Mod Pack Bugs and first check that (a) the issue is not already covered in this post (b) there isn't a bucket thread for the specific modpack you're reporting the issue with before starting a new thread there. If it is a bug involving the duplication of items, please start a private Conversation with Lathanael and Wyld rather than posting publicly about it.
  • Are you posting for technical support on an issue with your client or in a single-player game? Visit Tech Support.
  • Are you posting for technical support on an issue with your server? Visit Server Tech Support.
  • Are you posting to advertise for your server? Check Server Promotion for the appropriate category of server you're running and post there.
  • Are you posting to share and receive advice on running a server? Visit the Server Admin Area.
  • Are you posting to advertise your streaming video channel? Visit Stream Advertising.
  • Are you posting to advertise your YouTube channel? Visit YouTube Advertising.
  • Are you posting to provide feedback on the FTB Launcher itself? Visit Launcher Feedback.
  • Are you posting to provide feedback on the FTB Website & Forums themselves? Visit Web Feedback.
  • Are you posting to submit or discuss a third party texture pack ? Visit Texture Packs.
  • Are you posting to submit or discuss a third party mod pack distributed through the FTB Launcher? Visit Other Third Party Modpacks.
  • Are you posting to submit or discuss a third party map distributed through the FTB Launcher? Visit Third Party Maps.
  • Are you posting to discuss and design a map not necessarily part of the FTB Launcher? Visit Maps.
  • Are you posting to show off a design or build you have made in Minecraft? Visit the Community Showcase.
  • Are you posting to discuss or ask a question about a specific Minecraft Mod? Take part in Mod Discussion.
  • Are you posting to discuss or ask a question about something involving FTB that hasn't been covered in the categories above? Visit General FTB Chat.
  • Are you posting to talk about games other than Minecraft? Visit Other Games.
  • Are you a new poster looking to introduce yourself to the FTB community? Visit Introductions.
  • Are you posting to participate in a social "Forum Game" (word puzzles, role-playing, etc.)? Visit Forum Games.
  • Are you posting just to chat about things other than what's covered above? Visit the Chat forum.
Also, very importantly:
  • Are you posting to suggest a mod be added to the FTB packs? Do not start a new thread, only post a reply with your suggestion in this thread.
  • Are you posting to report a breach of the FTB Forum Rules? Do not post about it, use the Report button (see this thread for more information on using the Report button)
  • As a reminder, if you have discovered a bug involving the duplication of items, please start a private Conversation with TFox83 rather than posting publicly about it.
Congratulations! You've made it through the list. If you've already checked that your post isn't redundant and that you're posting it in the right forum, then what are you waiting for? Go post!
