FTB Server Requirement Query

Hey guys, I'm thinking of renting a server to play FTB on with upto 5 or so friends, but I have no idea which server to rent. Is there a minimum recommended spec for a server to run FTB or will any minecraft server be cool?

If you're looking at creeperhost and other similar services, you'll have to judge by your own expectations of what typical gameplay will be on your server. Will all members be using chunk loaders? Max sized quarries? Large scale automated red power frame contraptions? For 5 people, you could run a cheaper one as long as everyone agrees to respect the server and minimize things that will bog it down. There are strategies to make things easier on your server.

Tbh, it will be just me most of the time and yes I use chuck loaders between ages (mainly the nether and overworld for lava) I usually use buildcraft quarries and have never got the hang of redpower quarries, but I have no clue when it comes to using or playing on a server, just want to be able to take the strain off my pc (as it struggles a little, I have to run on very low spec). Is there a minimum I should be looking at, for instance I found a server which has 256mb ram for only $3/m but I'm not sure what I should be aiming for in terms of the system specs.

I'd aim for at least a full gig of ram minimum. Obviously, the better your server the better your game will be. If you have other players who are interested, you might try splitting the cost with them and getting something in the 20 to 30 dollar range.

thanks for the advice, i went for a server with verygames.co.uk, only paid £3/m for 2 ppl, will see how it goes
