Details of the issue I'm on a macbook air running OSX El Capitan. I also have the latest version of java installed.
 
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded

It's running out tof memory, allocate more memory to Minecraft.
 
Open the launcher and click options, there is a ram maximum slider.
