FTB Academy crash

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Hi. I've been playing FTB Academy for the last two or three weeks without any issues until now. Just yesterday (June 7), the game started crashing after a couple minutes every time I tried to play. It has crashed like this all five times I tried to play in the last 8 hours. At first, it would load my save, let me move around for about 30 seconds, but then it would suddenly freeze, go to a black screen, and crash to the desktop. Now it's crashing before it even gets to the main menu screen. A crash report was generated for one of the times it crashed, but there was nothing in the report; it was just a blank file. Java was updated a few days ago, and I just updated my video card drivers today after the third crash. Here are the log files for each time it crashed:

Crash 1: https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/4f762ca0
Crash 2: https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/3624f451
Crash 3: https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/17e78ecd
Interestingly, the next two separate log files were created for the fourth time I started it up, one of them with a single line:
Crash 4 Part 1(?): https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/712d0c9d
Crash 4 Part 2: https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/a595a033
Finally, here's the latest.log:
Crash 5: https://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/8263e33e

Edit 1: By the way, I'm using the old FTB launcher if that helps.
Edit 2: I should also mention that the launcher itself does not stop working. The game crashes to the desktop, but the launcher window is there after the crash.

Update: I have downloaded and tried using the newer Twitch launcher. It crashes and gives me an "Out of Memory" error, specifically that Java ran out of memory or something. I have 64-bit Windows 10 with between 7 and 8 GB out of 12GB RAM usually available and Java 64-bit (obviously since I have been playing for weeks now). I tried allocating 6 GB of RAM and it kept saying there was an out-of-memory error in the crash reports. Then I lowered it to about 4 GB and it still crashes but just says it crashed unexpectedly with no crash report.

I don't understand why all of this is happening now. I haven't done anything to my computer during the time I've been playing FTB, so I'm completely baffled. Maybe it has something to do with Java? It updated on Thursday to 1.8.0_251. Needless to say, I'm royally pissed off that it just decided to quit working out of the blue and with no clear reason.

Joyous news! I found the problem. I had both 32-bit and 64-bit Java installed, so I uninstalled both and then reinstalled the 64-bit version and restarted my computer. The Legacy launcher works fine now. I haven't used the Twitch launcher yet, but will update when I do.
