Hello,

I've been having some odd issues with the FTB packs for awhile and have not been able to pin it down, its FPS related issue in that I seem to be either locked to 30FPS most of the time or 40FPS.

For whatever reason today it started running between 80-115FPS and everything was smooth after recreating a world from another, I provided to check a few of my worlds which I had created to see good spawn points and eachone remained in the high FPS. I proceeded to then shutdown minecraft/ftb and restart the game to check if this was some kind of flunk as I had not been able to get the high FPS and again it restarted and started off at 30-40FPS.

I've not been able to replicate the result of having 80-115FPS again, I know its possible otherwise it wouldn't have hit those levels so I'm trying to figure out what is preventing it reaching those levels again, clearly its capable of doing so.

Rig:

Windows 7 64bit
I5 2.7ghz quad core
8gig of RAM
Nvidia GTX 660 2gig
250gig main harddrive which has the OS on and a 750gig 2nd with a 1gig external.

Java seems to be the 64bit version with version update 25.

I have assigned between 2gig to 4gig of ram on the launcher and have not had any difference in the FPS level, just seems to be stuck.

In the ingame graphics options I've enabled max fps, turned view range from far to normal and back again, turned off particles, clouds and see very minor FPS change if any. openGL is off and I have tried both fast and fancy for graphics aswell as texture packs on and off to the result of getting the same 30-40fps. I've also set vsync off and that has had no change on it either.

This is all in a new world and given atleast 4-5mins loading of the world around me and when chunks are loading the fps obviously drops but as noted above it was capable of running 80-115fps all of sudden so I don't think my rig is having issues otherwise that FPS wouldn't have shown up via F3 information panel.

I have followed the usual FAQ steps which get posted in other threads and removed FTB completely from both roaming and the desktop, also removed and reinstalled java to ensure it was on the right version to to no avail or change and have also checked system temperature to see if it was overheat issues causing FPS drop.

I have also ran and tried out optifine to see no change in FPS results and the above of FTB unleashed running at 80-115fps was running without optifine so its clearly capable of doing it without optifine.

I did note memory usage was 60% and used memory was 1.5gig when the FPS was high aswell.

I would appreciate any pointers or suggestions to try and sort the issue out, I consider myself tech savvy enough to sort computer issues but this one is alluding me quite considerably and on other games I'm not having FPS drops.

Possible ways to increase FPS in FTB:

-End the FTB Console Process in the task manager (The java process taking up about 100MB RAM)
-Set the FTB process to high priority (Works only when lots of processes are running)
-Delete other java versions if you have any
-Install optifine (Works great at keeping FPS up over time)
-Try reinstalling your modpack, sometimes this works

Also I have an I5 myself clocked at 3GHZ... They really do not communicate well when it comes to graphics and usually peak at 60FPS

Thanks. I have tried those the previous week and didn't see any difference and as mentioned optifine has been tried and doesn't seem to create any benefit. Plus I'm only using 4gig out of 8gig with all processes,FTB,OS and what not running so I don't think its RAM related in that regard and removing a 100mb ram process won't touch on it to much.

Reinstallations of the pack have not done anything for FPS either, as mentioned in my last post, it started running at 80-115FPS today untill I shutdown Minecraft and restarted the launcher and its gone back to being 30-40fps again.

Edit: To add to this, I get identical FPS with tekkit packs so I don't think its purely FTB related but something java related possibly or OS, I wish I could find what is blocking the extra fps since it clearly worked, abeit for a short period at higher FPS.

So nobody else have a idea for this issue? Barring a windows 7 re-install which I quite frankly don't think should be nessessary I cannot seem to pinpoint where else the issue is. I've put the javaw.exe into nividia's profile so its using the graphics for certain and stripped out other mods to see no FPS change bar getting towards 39FPS and not into the 40s as a constant. I don't particularly think my rig is that bad either and it didn't have issues before the new 1.5.2 packs.

That is the version which gets installed when you download 64bit version for windows 7 java off oracles main website, only the 32bit version seems to actually register as a client version when I've tried that version and 32bit limits minecraft to 1gig so its not really that helpful.

Also on the link you have provided there isn't a 64bit version clickable it seems.

Edit: After a full reinstallation of Windows 7 the issue of FPS seems to have completely been fixed which leads me to think my prior installation had something wrong with it, now able to maintain 120FPS easily with a high of 170FPS.

Oh well, least its sorted out.

I missed that, thought it might have been a adware download box which they sometimes appear as on sites so skipped over it, the 64bit further down the page is greyed out. Anyway its the identical file to the one you get off oracles main website for 64bit systems and installs the server version rather than client version for 64bit systems for some reason or another.

Anyhow, the issue has been resolved for me after re-installing windows so I believe it was something with the operating system causing the issue than anything else as its happy to run 100+ FPS now with barely any juttering or issues.
