Forge essentials permissions commands not working

Hi there!
I finished setting up my new Feed the Beast server yesterday, and now I'm having some problems with permissions.

I have set the Members group as the default group using /p default set Members _global_
I wanted to disable all teleport-related commands for members, for example the /back command. If I type /p group Members deny ForgeEssentials.BasicCommands.back I get the message that this command has been denied for the Members group. However, it still works. I tested it with several other commands too, they keep working. I moved myself explicitly to the Members group using /p user MyPlayerName group set Members, no change.

Any thoughts?

Update: I exported the permissions using the /p export command, was very surprised to see that most of the permissions I set in-game were set right in the exported file. I changed a few more, changed the name of the export folder to 'import', turned importing on in the config file, and now it seems to be working. Quite strange.
