Forestry Crates- Uses?

So i've known about forestry crates for some time now, how to make them and the sort, but I just wanna know if they're actually useful and what you guys think.

IMHO there doesnt appear to be any use except condense stuff that can't already be made into blocks (ie. you can't make a block out of wheat seeds...)

As far as I know you can also take those blocks and crate them. What turns me off about crates though is that it's only 9 items per crate.

When I think of 'crate' I think 'massive wooden box that holds lots of stuff.'

Wasn't crating removed from forestry some versions ago?
