Fixing chunk errors.

Is there a way to fix these on servers?

If they don't reload after a few seconds, disconnect and reconnect. It should fix it (I've yet to see it NOT fix it).

done that, restarted the server, multiple players are seeing it. nothing seems to take it away

yeah.

Try pressing and holding F3 and then pressing the F key. That should force a reload of chunks around you, hopefully.

If that doesn't help:
Stop the server and make a backup of the world.
Load the map in MCEdit and delete that chunk (don't do anything else, or you could get redstone trees and the like).
Restart server and watch a freshly regenerated chunk.

Or you could try a block update, by placing a block in or right next to it.
