Error Message: Failed to login: java.net.connectexception: Connection Refused: connect. Fixes?

Minecraft Version: 1.4.6

Java version: 6

Detailed description of the issue / how can the issue be recreated: When logging onto any server, this is the error message i get directly after the "logging in..." screen. This includes all modpacks, and even vanilla. People have told me its a firewall issue, but i'm almost certain it is not, as nothing has changed from when the message started appearing, a few days ago. Others have told me to edit my "hosts" file, but i cannot for the life of me find one which isn't a 'sample.' SSP is fine, I've tried the other support site, and minecraft forums, but i was hoping that the educated modders amongst you might be able to come up with an answer for me

1. You should be using Java 7, not Java 6.

Updating now, unsure as to whether that would be the issue however, as singleplayer has been no problem
