Editing Mystcraft symbols after world creation?

Is it possible to remove symbols after they've been added to a book, either through legit or OP?
 
You could edit the dat files with a program like nbt explorer, but you'll have to figure that out on your own and can potentially screw things up badly.
 
I don't know of a way, but in the Myst universe it is possible, so maybe you should pop over to the MystCraft forums and suggest it? Of course, removing symbols is usually a horrible idea in the Myst universe, so perhaps that will be fitting, as well, eh?
