Was out mining and noticed that there are two types of rubies in the game:

ID: 5267
ID: 21256:32

Did some poking around in NEI and find there are two types of Sapphire and Green Sapphire as well. Based on what you can make with them, I assume the first set is from Redpower and the second is from...mmm...Gregtech (or something from IC2)?

Are we supposed to have two types of gems?

I had thought GregTech's gem generation was being turned off in favor of letting Redpower control it all. Puzzling.

What's in NEI is no indication of what's actually generating, but if you mined up two different kinds of rubies, then they didn't turn off the GregTech generation.

The config file for GT definitely has rubies on, I've even seen them spawn side by side. GT's ruby is much rarer, and the dictionary connection should be severed so that they can't be used interchangeably. Right now, it's just much too easy to make Energy Crystals.

Side effect of things is that if you use a pick on a ruby block, you get the "correct" ruby (RP or GT) for the block, even though they are interchangeable in recipes. If you use a machine to process it, you always get the GT ruby.

They could turn off the Ruby-to-Energy Crystal thing, because only the common RP2 rubies would be too easy for GT recipes, and only the rare Gt rubies would be too expensive forruby tools.

Sapphires make for some pretty expensive substitutions in GregTech as well, though the bigger much bigger GregTech use for Rubies, unless he's added much easier sources, is Chrome.

If they were to disable one, they'd have to take into account that GT rubies have a chance to drop a garnet which is used in other things

I believe that both mods (RP2 and Gregtech) both are using the Forge Lexicon ore dictionary so they can be used interchangebly. Although that does mean incredibly easy Energy crystals unless im wrong.

not sure about rp but gregtech uses ore dictionary so rp gems can be used in gregs recipes.

Don't both have to be in the ore dictionary?
Yea the gems must be registered for both, but the RECIPE must also use ore dictionary to function, and i believe Eloram doesnt use it in her recipes as i can use her gems to craft GregTechs stuff but i cant use GTs gems to craft RP stuff (for example saphire pickaxe)
