I only ask this because the posted recipe on the wiki requires 8 end stone, 4 nether rack, and 1 block of glowstone. Right clicked with a diamond produces the soul shard. Cept when I right click with it now, nothing happens. Any clue as to the issue ? This makes it kinda hard to get my mob farm going :(

Appreciated bud ... Quick question, so from what I gather you can get blazes to spawn in this fashion ... I'd have to go the safari net route ? Or is this only work on certain mobs ?

You need 5 soul essences to "capture" a blaze, I believe.

Got that ... the one thing that bugs me about this is having to stay near the grinder/spawners to keep it going ... you move to far away from it and it stops working, even with a chunk loader on it. I was maybe 30 blocks away, and it stopped working. Walk back towards it, and it starts working again. Any clues how to make this 100% automated, if it's even possible anymore ?

Not really. Best you can do is put it somewhere that you spend a lot of time, under a work area or something.

I've just switched to MFR, personally. It's easy enough to produce the mob essence to keep up with a spawner.

Is that even possible though? I thought that it took more essence then you got from the vanilla spawners to spawn one? Wouldn't I inevitibly run out? Or is there something I am missing ?

I use livestock for the bulk of the mob essence, and vanilla spawners to supplement it a bit. A breeding pen with 4 cows and 4 sheep, with a chronotyper to pull babies into a seperate slaughter pen with a grinder, will basically keep up with one MFR spawner as long as you don't run it on exact mode.

Breeding ? So like breed cows, pigs and the like for the essence ?

What setup you recommend for this? And how exactly do ya move them about ?

The chronotyper that seraph089 mentioned will automatically pull out babies/adults(you can set which one) and the grinder automatically ignores baby animals/villagers.

so the setup that I use is

Pen with breading animals with a feed station
wall with Chronotyper in it (set to extract babies)
Pen to age animals
wall with Grinder in it

Some other tips: try burring the pens or making the walls 2+ thick. Try thaumcraft4 paving stones of warding.

Another tip to add: in the 5x5 space, add in conveyor belts that moves inwards to a 3x3 area as well.

Another alternative set-up to breeding for mob essence that I personally use is a vanilla dark-room spawner (Well.. mine is a darkroom cursed earth spawner, but basically the same thing, just a little faster)

Just set up a big dark room with grinders positioned to be able to kill anything that spawns, and that works fairly well, Easy to upsize as needed

Doesn't the cursed earth spread though? Or is there a way to keep it from spreading and keep it contained within that room?

Keep the patch of earth above ground, floating, in a room. Should prevent it from spreading.

It spreads to dirt and grass, but only in low light. So if you make an enclosed room with light around the outside it won't spread outside

But in the case of your earth getting out of control, cursed earth has a thing which if the light level gets above a certain level.. cursed earth catches fire. Which spreads more light, and more fire, causing a loop destroying most of your earth
