disabling NotEnoughItems

is there a way to disable NotEnoughItems without it crashing so im not using a cheat??

Go into your inventory screen and click on the Options button at the lower left. You can change its mode there, or disable it.

Like silvas said, in the "option" button down there is the "cheat mode" by default.
To only be using NEI to look up recipes, put it into "recipe mode", then just click/R for the recipe, or right click/U for the usages.

As always, you can hide all this by pressing O, no matter the mode.
