Solved Direwolf20 'cat' not recognized

I'm running Windows 8,
I added nothing to the server I downloaded from the launcher,
I changed the eula to true.

Whenever I try to run the server with ServerStart.bat it says in the console:

C:\Users\Jaime\Desktop\FeedTheBeast>if NOT "" == "yes" ()
Detected following JVM error:
===============================
'cat' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
===============================
JVM test failed. Can't run server, Exiting...
Press any key to continue . . .

It also creates a text document in the server file called java-test.log and it says:

Error: missing `server' JVM at `C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_40\bin\server\jvm.dll'.
Please install or use the JRE or JDK that contains these missing components.

I've tried looking this up but it seems like no one else has this problem. I have no idea what to do, does anybody know a solution?

I had the same error! You need to run the minecraft_server 1.7.10 then install the newest version of java 8 (64 bit) and uninstall your old java! Then run the ServerStart.bat and it should work! If you need more help just ask!

i have the same problem, and the above solution did not work. I have installed java 8 and then start serverstart.bat and i get the same 'cat' error

I solved this issue by uninstalling 32-bit Java and installing the offline, 64-bit version.

I had exactly the same issue, 64-bit java fixes it. If not, sorry I can't help your problem.

this didnt work for me either (bear in mind i am using magequest, not direwolf20 but i had the same error) now its something about parnew outadted, need help

i fixed it! i just had to run the ftbinstaller file first and then it worked

Installing the "Server JRE" solved this problem for me.
