I set up the typical drop trap that leaves my mobs (skeletons) with so little energy that I kill them easily by just punching them. Since I'm using an always on server I sometimes come back to the game to find hundreds of mobs waiting to die, so I was wondering:

What is the best technique to kill them all at the same time quickly and still get the XP?

I heard that a splash healing potion on the skeletons will kill them and drop XP.

or you can consider using a melee turtle with a brain in a jar. you'll need to code the turtle to continuously keep attacking, and the brain in a jar will gather all the exp.
the plus side with this is that you don't have to stay near the mob trap, you can get to a certain level more precisely and less lagg since you are not killing all the mobs all at once

Lost as always
With the latest version of Thaumcraft3, combat golems function similarly to the previously mentioned turtle method. They will need a visor, however, to produce xp for the brain in a jar.

If it's just skeletons, are you using a spawner? If so, how do you keep it spawning while you are offline? Or do crafted spawners behave differently to vanilla ones?

Does a World Anchor or Chunk Loader count as a player for spawner purposes?

There's an add-on turtle called an XP Turtle that can not only pick up XP orbs but can actually use an Enchanting Table to enchant items.

some chunkloaders turn off when the player goes offline (chickenchunk-loaders and the personal loader from railcraft)
