Deep Storage Unit missing its UI in Monster pack?

I haven't cross checked this with any other FTB packs, but I created my first Deep Storage Unit tonight (that's a horrific recipe!) and after placing the block it had no directional In/Out user interface. Has anyone else seen this occur with the DSU?

Furthermore, the DSU seems to accept items from the top, but itemducts are unable to pull items from any face.

In the new versions of mfr the deep storage units do not have an interface and can accept from any side and you should be able to pull out from any side

Good to know that UI change is intentional.
Regarding the itemducts; I had to put upgrade them with a pneumatic servo for them to pull from the DSU.

Sorry for the Necro, was having same issue with other blocks and found out you don't need a Pneumatic Servo, you really only need a redstone signal. So a Redstone Torch, Lever, etc. will all work for turning on the Item Duct to pull from things that don't force items out. And since you don't need to filter what comes out of a DSU....
