I was looking at the Launcher today and saw Crash Landing on the list, and wanted to see everyone's thoughts on this new map/pack and things like that.

It is a map like AS but not even close to it. Meaning it uses quests like AS and utilizes ex nihilo. But that's about where the similarities stop. The story is you crash landed on a dusty planet and need to learn how to survive. The twist to this map is you have to manage water now to. There is no infinite water and if you go to long without drinking you will get dehydrated and die. You can check out more about it in the 3rd party modpacks section of the forums. And if you ever find a bug *that hasn't already been found* report it on that thread or contact @Iskandar. All in all I highly recommend this pack.

Crash Landing and AgSkies both make you create all your resources out of nothing. And both have quest books to guide you along the way. Everything is very progression-oriented. - You start by punching trees, create dirt, then stone, then ores etc. Until you end up with fully automated builds.

The first difference is that Crash Landing puts a lot more pressure on the player, at least in the beginning. If you go too slowly, you run out of food and water and die. If you don't control the mobs, they will kill you and you die. AgSkies is much more forgiving, especially with all the bonus lifes you get there. In Crash Landing you always have the feeling in the beginning, that you should work on three different things to survive, but you only have time for two of them. Rather intense at times, but a lot of fun! :)

On the other side, AgSkies has a bigger mod selection. Blood Magic, Thaumcraft, Forestry, Bees and Trees are not available in Crash Landing. What it does have, are some more innovative mods. There are not too many other packs that have Pneumaticcraft and SFM included at the moment. (And both are great mods to play around with.)

And AgSkies is more stable (as in "finished"). Crash Landing still has a lot of changes. More quests, balance changes and even changes in the maps. There is always the temptation to start over after a major change. :)

Make sure to enable Zombie Awareness before you start playing. Otherwise it will be a pane in the glass to get mob drops (you need bones for bone meal/stock, rotten flesh for zombie jerky/composting to dirt).
This mod is intented to be enabled, but it caused a lot of lag so he had to turn it off in a recent update.

ZA causing a lot of lag? I always use it and never experience Lag, even when sometimes I've logged onto my map and discovered a horde of a few hundred zombies camping my base.

Sounds like an interesting pack, used/use many of these mods in my normal gameplay

Anyone got tips/hints for the map/pack? I'm doing a play through of it for youtube and kind of know what to do, but I am always open to new ideas. :)

heh, coincidence, I just launched FTB for the first time in a week and there was an update!! And then I saw the 3rd Party Modpacks section, and out of all of them, Crash Landing intrigued me the most. I went looking for a resource pack (I can't play vanilla textures anymore lol) and got distracted. Thanks for reminder, gotta go load it up and see how it is.

It took me three or four tries to download it, kept saying "download error". Finally got it, played my first game and I didn't even complete the first quest before dying. LOL Somehow I don't think I'm cut out for this kind of modpack, I tried Agrarian Skies one time and I don't even remember what happened but never tried it again.

So I barely got far enough to have any questions, except for wondering why there were two quest books in my inventory, with a third one in the chest? Isn't one quest book enough, can I delete the other two? I don't even know if the answer matters, I'm not sure I want to devote a good chunk of time to these sort of packs. I start into them like "this is gonna be cool" but after dying in the first ten minutes, I dunno. Is this gonna be a "restart the game from scratch" over and over again type of thing? Seems like it.

The other books are for if you miss place one, and it takes time to really get into those kinds of packs.

I can't even make it to nightfall. I figured out right clicking a water bottle lets you drink it, but how do I eat the jerky to stave off hunger? Right clicking with it in my hand didn't work.

What do you mean? You eat food like normal in this... as long as you don't have heat stroke. (Or whatever it was called.)
Also did you just drink the water or did you put it into the backpack thing?
