Completely random explosion

So earlier today, my session crashed and when i was able to rejoin our server there had been an explosion right where I was standing. I came to the conclusion that since my friend was also on the server at the time, when my game crashed I had unintentionally left an engine going that heated up and exploded. However, just a few minutes ago, I was playing on the server alone, the game crashed again, and when I rejoined there was yet again a crater where I had been standing damaging quite a bit of stuff (chests, planks, stone, what have you). This time, however, I was no where near any machinery of any kind... any ideas?

So no machinery whatsoever? Nothing player-made? Perhaps someone's trolling you. The possible explosion sources I can think of:

Nukes, TNT, ITNT, and such
Overheated Nuclear Reactors
Overflowing Golden Conductive Pipes
Hot Engines

Can you post a screenshot of the crater, its size might give us an idea of what may have caused it?
