Indeed - SevTech uses the advancements system to drive where you need to go, so its a bit more focussed than your usual quest type system. AoE uses the Guide Book to list the ages and what you need to get to in order to progress to the next age.

To add a couple to the list:

Forever Stranded: Lost Souls is a spiritual successor to Crash Landings (its immediate predecessor, Forever Stranded, is more similar in terms of starting environment); that's a quest based pack that uses the Better Questing mod. It also differs much more from the standard route (and the original Forever Stranded) in that it gates activities and blocks behind skills that need to be purchased with XP.

Modern Skyblock 3 Departed is a skyblock based map, similar I believe to previous Modern Skyblock packs, which uses some interesting alternatives to the usual Ex Nihilo sieving stuff (a mod called Sky Resources, in particular), and is also quest based and uses Better Questing, but has recipes locked behind progression and quests.

I'd throw Automaton into the list. It's easier than the others listed, but still guided through and requiring you have previous mods setup before you advance to the next stage.
