Can't connect to server

Details of the issue:
Hello, my friend bought a server for 2 months and i want to play on it aswell, now we have a problem; his version is 1.6.4 and the server version is also 1.6.4 so if i try to connect i get; 'Outdated Client' how can we fix this? anyway, thanks! please instruct really clear with alot of details becaus we are nooby at this. anyway, thanks alot!​
 
If you open the launcher there should be a dropdown button that either says recommended or the version you are using. Click it and select the version that you need. Remember to change it back before you go to a single player world as problems may occur otherwise
