What is the bug? I'm trying to build platforms and building in the void, but in some particular areas it won't let me build.

Sounds like you might be trying to build in the spawn protected area. Which would be a 16 block radius around spawn. Did you start the game with cheats turned on? If so type in /op playername into the game chat. Then see if you can build in that area.

If not there is another way to turn the cheats back on via using "Open to LAN". Use that and try the same command.
