Can't allocate more RAM!

I have tried everything to allocate more RAM to minecraft. Anything I do wont change the numbers on the top right of my screen when I hit F3. It stays at below 500mb. I have 16g of Ram to give so I need HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

You probaly have 32bit java try to remove it and instal the 64 bit java.

Allocating RAM =/= using RAM

Allocating RAM simply means that it can use it, but it using said RAM is entirely different. Also, you really shouldn't allocate more than 4GB to modded Minecraft, and 800MB to Vanilla. This is because of how Java handles garbage, it will actually slow your game down if you allocate too much. And if you really need to, set it to a higher priority in task manager.
