I'm trying to make one of those woven miner's backpacks, but it requires you to get silky comb and put it in a centrifuge. Unfortunately, I know nothing about breeding bees, so can someone tell me how to get this comb? I've gotten it from tropical hives, but have no idea how to get more.

Simplest way-

Find an appropriate biome to breed the tropical bees you have. You can use a beaalyzer to find out which, but breeding them in a jungle is a sure bet.

Bees go in apiaries ( or alvearies, which are a bit more advanced). Only queens produce combs and honey- you put a princess in the top slot on the left and a drone in the bottom slot on the left to breed a queen. If the correct conditions are met- biome, sky access, and appropriate flower- it will begin production. You can tell when a queen is working as it will have particles around the apiary. Most bees are fine with standard flowers, but some take other plants- desert bees want cacti, and tropical bees want vines (or ferns maybe).

To boost production, put frames into your apiary. I prefer proven frames because I can just buy them for cheap from a beekeeper villager (whose apiaries I also steal).

Rinse and repeat when the queen is done.. just breed a princess and drone together!

Beyond that, get more princesses (you only ever have as many queens as beehives you've scooped). Or, try crossbreeding but you may end up veering off of your tropical line into something else entirely, then you'll have to go get more tropical princesses. But for now, just get a few tropical princesses and only breed them with tropical drones.

Purebred tropical bees can tolerate normal/normal climates, so you don't necessarily need to put your apiary in a jungle if you live in plains, forest, etc. and haven't crossbred them. Just in case that makes it easier for you!

If all you want is silky combs crossbreeding is unnecessary, stock tropicals will give you all you need. You will need frames, but the cheapest ones, untreated, are made from sticks and string. The more expensive ones only last longer, they do not grant a greater production boost.
