So we are trying to get a server host up and running (been looking at creeperhost and pytohost) and I was wondering which, if any, would allow you to run a modified modpack. We are using Mindcrack but we've added Applied Energistics since we didn't want to switch to a different pack and have to start a new world... so is there any server host that would allow us to continue using Mindcrack+AE, and if so how?

Wow, kbgservers charge a lot of money for very little. Honestly for 2 gigs of memory, its the price of 4 from creeperhost.

Just find a VPS, you can do anything you want on a VPS within reason. Such as running a Mumble server.

Awoigre it depends on how much your willing to work. You get the most for your money when you have to do all the work (ie nothing like Creeperhosts support (lol?) / control pannel / auto setup). With most game hosts if you have FTP access you can force/fake it into running your modded server pretty easy.

Treepuncher is making me sick. They are charging you extra just to run a server from the FTB launcher, and per player. Money should only be calculated for the performance of the server, not what modpack your running.

You would be best with Creeperhost if you have no clue what your doing. If you want a good VPS, http://www.ramnode.com/ is supposed to be quite good compared to others. If you want to go all out and have your own hardware, https://www.ovh.co.uk/ has some nice dedicated boxes for good prices.

We don't need to go all out, this server won't ever have more than 5 people online simultaneously. All we want is stable performance; trying to run it on our home machines has led just to frustrating lag. Bearing in mind we have plenty of chunk loaders around the world, keeping machines going... that probably increases the amount of RAM needed?

Well what DZCreeper is basically saying is that any of them will work, but we assume you want the most for your money in which case you want to stay away from game hosting companies and just look for dedicated servers, but if you don't want to deal with the setup creeperhost is probably an alright option. As for treepuncher any hosting company that makes you pay by player is not something you want to deal with as that is a terrible way to pay for as some people use a ton of resources and some will use very little and it does not really tell you how much resources you have to deal with.

True... I think Creeperhost isn't a bad idea since they've got a 25% off promo going on right now. I don't know if that'll continue for every month if we get a server now, but it definitely helps now. As long as Creeperhost would allow us to use Mindcrack+AE, all's good.

Well considering all you are doing is adding a config file and a jar file if you have FTP access you can do it
