I was trying to make Ignus bees using the way it states in my Thumanomicon, using a fire shard, a stark bee, and a bunch of essence, but when it was all said and done no bee was made from the recipe that the book gave me. I know my Infusion alter's close enough to my cauldron as I've made magical items like Golems and weapon staffs before and after discovering this problem and of course I've done all the research as I wouldn't have been able to view the recipe otherwise, what might be the problem?

Which version you on ?

I made Ignis Bees in 1.5.2 Unleashed using the Infusion Altar + Stark, though I think it was 1.1.3 and not one of the more recent Unleashed distros.

I'm using Ultimate, and it uses the 1.1.3 version as well which is before you had to breed to get Ignis, so the infusion alter should be working...But I wouldn't be here if it was, huh?

1.1.3 is/was my Unleashed version, not the Thaumic Bees or TC3 version. I believe Unleashed used/uses a newer version, renamed to "Magic Bees". In Ultimate, I believe it was (still) called Thaumic Bees, version 1.3.0d, I believe.

Sorry, it's been a few days since I did all my research into the issue, so 1.1.3 looked right. And yes, it's still Thaumic Bees, however the recipe is still the same as you describe in the later versions, using an infusion alter and a shard.

Yeah, I'm just trying to imply that if there is a bug, it may be difficult to receive support for a 1.4.7 version of a mod.

Do what DW20 does and what I do when something that should work clearly is not - NEI Cheat Mode yourself in the bees/drones and toss the required ingredients. Get what you're looking for the asked-for price and move on.

I've done something like that because I've had carpenter issues as well, but the problem is spawning bees higher than Hive level is impossible to my knowledge, they're not in the NEI or creative mode...I'm not exaggerating when I say because of that I've work seven hours in total to get where I'm not stuck...

Wow. In my 1.6.4 world, I can only see the hive (found) bees in NEI Recipe mode. To even see the higher-level bees, I have to put NEI into cheat mode. But, at least I can see them.

Yeah, they won't show up for me, guess it's modified to help keep you from cheating too hard...

You need to turn on "enable fake item" option in NEIAddons config to to bees in recipe mode (and right-click to show breeding info/produce), see http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...worktable-support/page__st__300#entry25453932

Also you can browsing those breeding/production info by pressing "L" then go to specific menu while NEI interface is on

I personally would recommend using the Escritoire instead of NEI for mutations, makes it feel more legitimate for me at least

Didn't know they got Escritoire, it's not even on Forestry wiki. Will try this out when I have chance, thanks.

quick run down, put bee in the middle, as far as i can tell it doesn't matter if it's a princess, drone, hybrid, analyzed or unanalyzed. It's just the primary trait that matters.

Use combs that the bee produces as this 100% guarantees a slot revealed per comb used. You can use combs from other bees, but that only has a chance of revealing a tile

Press the microscope button to reveal at the expense of combs. It's a memory game, match the pairs. Once all pairs are matched, you have a chance of getting a note with a mutation, and/or combs of that bee species back.

Right click with the note, and it will either "memorise" the note, or tell you that it's already memorised. If you memorise a note, that is now available to see underneath the species in the databank for you to look back on later

EDIT: Notes will also reveal if there are special conditions like plains, or a tin block underneath the apiary. The only species it doesn't do this for are ones that are date dependent (Easter, Christmas, New Years, things like that)

EDIT2: If you investigate a species more than 15 times, you're guarenteed to not get a note.
In the apiarist databank, on the top tab of a species, it will tell you the complexity value (a fair few of them are bugged and you can't actually read it), the higher the complexity value, the more pairs of bees you have to get, so for the very high complexity bees, I'd recommend getting a pen and paper to help you, because getting it under 15 reveals any other way would be beyond most peoples working memory
