So basically i have this blaze farm set up with a T5 soul shard in it, but problem is it wont spawn blazes when im not online. and yes i do have a chunk loader set up but it still wont work, so is it the server im playing on limiting the use of them or is there something im missing. could i possibly set up a turtle to be a player entity?

It does sound like it's not a teir 5. Sorry to ask this but you are very sure its teir 5? If the chunkloader config to change the chunkloader properties is changed on the server, there is no way around it. You should ask your server admin if he has changed this.

There's a config option to turn chunkloaders off that belong to players that are offline. This is likely the cause if it is properly chunkloading when you are away from your base but online.

The T5 shard is likely doing its job just fine, but mobs despawn when players aren't close enough.

I hear tell putting them in a different dimension might affect that, but I doubt it. It's possible ComputerCraft's fake player (off by default?) might sort them. Be absolutely sure the mobs will be killed though - you'll kill your server if the spawning goes out of control.

Why oh why would you need a spawner to keep spawning mobs while your off line, many many times on server we have seen this, there is a reasom mods despawn when no player near & that is to save strain on server/client, mobs are entities & having lots in a chunk increases the work load for that chunk, & if for some reason some part was to fail, like turtles unload when you change dimension, or the chest/barrel/sorter to overflow, how then can the offending player fix if not even online!!, the option for spot loaders should be set on all chunk loaders in mho, while a player is online there loaded chunks work fine but when they logout all the loaded chunks should unload too, why should the online players have to deal with issues & even lag from off line players setups.

Sry for rant but its a pet hate of mine, I have been on servers where when a player logs out some one had to go check that grinders are all off, & I can tell you far more than one server, often the novice player does not even know the damage that can be caused by spillage.

So in short the the soulshard spawner as with vanilla spawners are working as intended.

Yea, the T5 shard is working as normal. When you log-off the vanilla de-spawn mechanics kick-in, and your mobs will instantly de-spawn if there isn't another player within 128 blocks, but the dimension does have other players in it.

On the one hand, this is a good thing to prevent mobs spawning uncontrollably when players fail to set-up a good enough system to counter server restarts or overspill, for example. But, on the other hand, those of us that know how to set up a good enough system to limit server strain find this restrictive. But it's no big deal.

A problem with this is that some setups can fail catastrophically if only, say, half the chunks they inhabit are loaded (eg by a player wandering nearby). Granted this problem can be kept to a minimum by packing systems into single chunks, but that's more then a bit restrictive.

FTB just isn't all that much fun if your machines only work for you when you're around them. Spawners, however, are a bit over the top.

Some machines should run and some things shouldn't. Constant mob spawning shouldn't be. If its the mats just AFK while you shower..pretty sure by than you'll have a lot (unless your like me quick cold showers lol).

That said, I agree, mob spawners don't need to be running at all in loaded chunks. If I were a server admin I'd take away their spawners, chunk loaders, and jam their systems with eggs if they did that shit on a server I was admin on.
