So, I'm making a tree farm in the DW20 - 1.6.4 pack. I know I could use Steve's Carts or any other kind of already done for me setup, but what's the fun in that?

Axe of the Stream in Autonomous Activators (AA from now on) with repair 2 breaks the blocks kinda fast, but takes incredibly long to repair. Now, the leaves are a problem with everything I've thought of. I don't want to let them decay, that would take a long time. Is there a way to break them more quickly while still letting birch trees grow? Maybe sickles work in an AA, but that requires maintenance, and I don't feel like it.

Any ideas? I'm kind of stuck here, mostly on the leaves part.

Ars Magica has a leaf-removing spell (Wizard's Autumn?).

There's also a way to auto-cast spells with a caster, but I've never done it myself.

As for the repair problem, you could put 9 axes in there and set it to Round Robin.

Also, if you're not dead set on using Autonomous Activators, you could grow a giant tree and cut it down using an upside down Arcane Bore, like Etho did. :D

The arcane bore is a good idea, but it's a bit of a larger project to make the bore thing. I'll try the caster thingy, thanks.

If you are using an Axe of the Stream you should have no problem with leaf decay as the Axe makes them decay in seconds after the tree is gone. Use it once by felling a full tree with it and watch the leaves disappear if you believe it takes too long then think up another solution. But really you shouldn't need to.

MFR Harvester set to shear leaves? (then just void them, or run them through a block breaker setup if you want the saplings)

Editted for Derpitude: You don't need to set it to shear the leaves at all, if you want the saplings. I'm fairly sure the MFR harvest will break all the leaves when it harvests the trees period, so it will clear up your leaf problem regardless. Only set it to shear if you want to keep the leaf blocks instead of saplings for some reason (like for Herba production in Thaumcraft).

For reference, a Forestry Multi-Farm will do the same thing as well. Both are in DW20.

I had a small but large producing MFR tree farm in Monster, it was very customizable and ran itself while leaving about 50% for the outcome.
I really should make that showcase of it...hmmm

MFR farm will make the leaves run away in despair.. if not that you can always deploy some fire charges in the automatic way of your choice.. XD

Autonomous Activator with flint and steel connected to an autocrafting flint + steel table?
Would that work?

Not really but it would be worth the lulz.. (? nah.. no way that would work because you would need to have the leave just in front.. In that case would be better to put a sickle inside that autonomous activator.. But really, jokes off, MFR should do the trick, if not, just icbm the crap out of the farm. (@
YX33A this is getting dangerous..)
