As soon as they update mods on their side, you get a message about mod pack update with a launch. It will redownload the whole mod pack.
But nothing stops you from updating your mods or adding new by yourself anytime.

It's funny because I'm trying to get my mods configured and restarted this 5 times with the notice and it never updated. I had to manually update.

I have had the same problem. There is a mod in the mod pack that tells me there is a new version out but it wont auto update with FTB for some reason.

i think you mean the thermal expansion? this wont update on his own, the ftb staff has to update manually the ftb modpack and release it, once this is done, the launcher will grab the updated modpack.

it's more like a semi-automated update process

Will all mods give a message when they have an updated version, like the one I'm getting for Thermal Expansion?

Not necessarily, MCJinzha. It depends on whether it's coded into that mod or not.

Regardless, no mods will be updated until the FTB pushes them out via the launcher. Feel free to update personally client-side, of course. =)

Thanks for clarifying. Didn't know if it had to be written into the mod itself. Always thought it was handled by the launcher.

The launcher could include this by installing harnesses into the .jar itself for Minecraft, but it would be difficult to implement (it'd have to communicate with many different mods' systems simultaneously) and likely not worth the effort/time/system resources. ;)

With the mod pack being a static release, they should add code to disable version checking in the individual mods to eliminate the issue.

To do that they would have to edit the code of the mods themselves. That is not seen as an ethically OK thing, for the most part.

I don't know if its that drastic, when they all use FML to load properly. The FTB folks have alot of sway with FML and these mod loaders and could suggest a unified update checks to run through a module of FML or of their own making, which could then be disabled the same way vanilla elements are disabled/overwritten to use the mods.

You updated the launcher and when I hit the "Yes" Button to update, the launcher quit and nothing happened. I manually downloaded it, but is this normal?
