So I am doing research finally, and have scanned many different things. Problem is I am running out of aspects for research, and I got a lot more to do. I'm particularly short on the 6 base ones, except Terra (I think that is the green one).

How do I get more for research, as I got most the items scanned that give aspects, and subsequently can't scan them again, unless there is something about this version I am not getting.

I have 4.1.0d

Other question I have in regards to this mini-game of figuring out the research is how to do it exactly. I mean I know how it's done, but it seems overly complicated, and I wouldn't mind help, or a website on that. As the youtube videos I've watched on Thaumcraft 4 are old, and aren't like the new research.

Make a Deconstruction table. Throw in a stack of something composed of a high-level aspects (compound aspect, made from compound aspect), collect research points. Things that I've heard work well: Crafting tables (only 4 wood planks, but won't give ignis), Mossy Cobblestone (You can make in a TE Liquid Transposer), and Netherwart (once you can farm it).

That should help a lot. You can also surround your research table with Primal Crystal clusters and bookcases, which will give you random "bonus" points (the white shine on a aspect in the table), but the bonus is always used last. So if you want to take advantage of those, use em up frequently.

Thanks. How do you make the clusters? Mossy cobble stone is made in a transposer? How ?

Thanks. That helps immensely.

You should be able to see the crafting recipe for crystal clusters in the NEI, aswell as how to make mossy cobble. Search the name of the item for example mossy cobble and hover over it and press it. That will tell you how it is created.

A crafting table placed in a Deconstruction table will grant 1 primal aspect of randomness 100% of the time. So that's a cost of 4 planks for 1 primal aspect.

I said all that already.

Of course, I got the crafting table tip from ThatOneSlowking and the Mossycobble from MigukNamja :p

And yeah, I'm completely out of Ordo on my server play, but have like 70 ignis. It does not get used very evenly atm.

Ordo aer and aqua are the most used :(

Is there any way to automate the Deconstruction Table? It's annoying having to babysit it, especially in Magic Farm.

I know from experience that you can pipe stuff in, but I don't know any way of automatically collecting the research points. That's probably what Azanor intended in fact, since one of the reasons he completely overhauled research for TC3 so that it couldn't be automated.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though, since I also hate babysitting Deconstruction Tables. :p

IIRC ThaumicTinkerer adds some CC usage to it, but I somehow doubt that it allows for full automation. But at least it's a start. With some open perhiperal computer glasses, you could even get a notification when it has a aspect, and what kind(I think), but again, some assembly required.

Simple: Scan more things. Trust me, you're going to find more things with aspects you haven't scanned eventually.
Also there is a soft cap, as a reminder, defaulted at 50 points. Going higher then this results in less aspects from scanning things for that aspect(so if you have 50 ordo, scanning things that have ordo nets you less ordo, but the normal amount of aspects if they are not above the soft cap).

Deconstruction tables are a easy, useful choice, but eating research fragments is very effective as well, and not super wasteful since they aren't strictly needed anymore for "lost" researches, which are now pretty damn common but much easier to obtain.

That's what I figured :p

Too bad the Table's so slow then. Although I turned that part off myself, it's dangerous to just sit there in Magic Farm.

According to the wiki, I have all the aspects, I just have low amounts of the ones I always seem to need, lol. What do you mean, eating research fragments?

I've been using the deconstruction table, which helps, but with GT on my server, I need twice as much wood, LOL.

Take some research fragments, and right click them. Gets you like 3 of every primal.

And just because you know every aspect, doesn't mean you have all aspects scanned. Scanning isn't just for learning aspects, it gets you aspects as well. A useful place to start is Bedrock. Used to give 20 of every primal IIRC. Caps out at 8 of every primal now, but still, it's great.

Another tip that hasn't come up in this thread that I could see is scanning nodes

Each node gives 10% of its capacity as research points. So a 40 water 20 fire, gives 4 aqua and 2 ignis

It doesn't get suggested often either. Might have something to do with the mild obviousness of it.

On nodes, that's one of the reasons I disable Mystcraft. A flat age can provide too many nodes to scan and destroy (for essence).
