Somewhere over the rainbow.
I'm looking at a way to open a door/drawbridge/other stuff automatically when I approach a place, I don't want a lever, button or remote for it, I want like a sensor we can have at our house and that turn lights on when we go near them, I'm not familiar with all the stuff in this modpack, so far I saw the seer stone from AM2 that can do it, but it require essence which wouldn't be easy to supply cause it wouldn't be at my AM2 base where I want that setup... Any help is greatly appreciated

For simplicity, I use obsidian (player only) pressure plates. I think they can be camouflaged & silent, but those might be added by a different mod (seen them in people's Monster videos, haven't bothered with them in my single-player). I believe 1 of the computer craft add-ons includes player detectors (not sure of this), & I'm sure MFFS does as part of the security set-up. Railcraft (&/or Steves Carts?) also has a player detector, but I think it only works if you are traveling in a minecart.

Direwolf20 used MFFS as a player identifier in his Forgecraft 2 Season 2 series around Episode 28 or so when he's building his new home in a Void age. You can try and check that out.

I love Obsidian Pressure Plates, I use them everywhere including the shrouded and silent ones, the problem is they react to all players, not just me, I also have the carpenters block pressure plate but I'm not sure if it reacts only to players yet. I think I'll have to go the Ars Magica 2 route for this, the only tricky part would be to keep some mana batteries always charged to keep the seer stone active...

Then wouldn't Light Nexus's underground underneath your sensing area connected to a Mana Battery linked to the seer stone work? The Nexus's would constantly charge the seer stone and allow you to pass since they passively charge.

I think light nexus only work if they can see sunlight or moonlight ift caps are made of moonstone so having that underground wouldn't work...
I don't think it makes a difference whether they see sun or not. Direwolf20 has his nexus underground and it works. At least, you won't know until you try.

Light levels do not matter for the Light Nexus. It's name is just to oppose the Dark Nexus. It uses the night/day cycle to work. The only problem you may have with it is if the area you put it is chunk loaded due to nearness or not. Also I have noticed a slight bug with levers and charging the mana batteries. So if you do use the setup have the seer stone turn off the lever when it senses you and turn it back on when it doesn't. That way you reset the charge every time you pass.

If you have qcraft you could use observer dependent block groups in such a way that you actually have to walk backwards to enter your base, otherwise you will look at the blocks in such a way that makes the blocks not exist. Its easier than you might think to setup. Also means you are constantly moonwalking into your base, which is what ballers do.

I've not tried to mess around that much with the qcraft blocks, found them useless and I don't think that idea would change anytime soon, if you can demonstrate a video of a good use of them, I could reconsider that, but so far, I didn't come accross any youtuber that used them in a LP of FTB...

Yea I dont know of anyone who actually uses it in their lets play series despite it being in several FTB packs. I ought to do some videos with all the work I put into my private mod pack. I wouldnt let the lack of LP videos disuade you from trying it out. I just had an idea for a vanishing spiral staircase I now need to try out.

Somewhere over the rainbow.
Direwolf20 did a spotlight on Qcraft that's super helpful...

TBH, it was the most boring of his mod spotlight, if this is all we can do with qcraft, I even wonder why he choose to put it in his modpack, maybe that's because he's friend with the modder, I think its also why we have billund that is a totally useless mod also...

The portals can be useful. The inter server portals can be useful too if you have a multicore system and want to "distribute" the load between two server instances.

buillund isnt useless unless your really not into the creative side of things Buillund is there to let you think outside the blocky world of minecraft and into another blocky world of Lego with studs... Qcraft is interesting but it overlaps with MFFS if you pretty much do the same thing with both of them asides from making hidden walls with Qcraft the only difference is the interserver teleportation which is mighty interesting but er... impractical

I just set up an automatic teleportation system in my base using seer stones buried underneath teleposer platforms. It works well, although the range on the seer stone with a lesser focus seems to be a bit more than the 5 blocks advertised in the documentation. Powering the seer stones is pretty simple - just put a glass-capped light nexus right underneath each one.

Somewhere over the rainbow.
Will have to test this out when my Castle is completed, actually I didn't even started the build yet, need to find a way to clear up a very large area without making it too obvious (so no filler there, they make their work #1, but the area looks like a crater around it and is ugly) that it was cleared out, need to find the perfect spot, but with BoP in this modpack, I think its impossible, the biomes border are ugly, will make it a real challenge...
