A couple of comments in another thread caught my eye earlier and got me thinking...

There are some mods that add ambient content into Minecraft; animals, corals, villages, NPCs, sounds etc. Generally people like them because yeah, there's not much ambience in Vanilla MC and they make things more interesting when playing SSP. These kind of mods - or the concept they're implementing - are usually suggested to be included in Vanilla MC due to this reason.

My question is, why? Why should they be included in Vanilla when it's dead easy to install them through - let's say - Magic Launcher. Two clicks and it's done, sure it's a bit of a hassle but it's not difficult.

On the other hand, I can't find any solid reason as to why they shouldn't, it's just some other passive mobs, or aggressive mobs, another type of village that spawns, another NPC with the AI of vanilla vllagers...

To me, it seems like right now we have a base game (vanilla) and things are added through mods. Essentially the same is when mods are implemented beforehand and we have a fuller base game but not the aforementioned mods.

You know what I mean?

Game designers can't please everyone. Some people want more ambient content in Minecraft. Some better scenery, more passive mobs, more aggressive mobs, all that jazz.

On the other hand, some people want more functional objects such as pipes, hoppers, redsonte, and the works.

No matter what is or isn't in vanilla, someone will want more so they'll create a mod to fill in the blanks. The modding community is far larger than Mojang, so it will fill in the blanks before Mojang does.

The best part of this is, is that it makes the game configurable to whoever plays it. A person can make Minecraft anything from an RPG to be a strategy game. It'd be nice to get features in vanilla from some of the mods around, but things work they way they do now. And I say if it's not broke, dont' fix it.

Yeah I totally understand what you're saying, and I'm on the same boat as you on this one. I hope you didn't get me wrong, the post was mostly a "vague" wondering of the matter, I see some hostility on the Minecraft Fora towards mods, it's like they're considered "taint" to Vanilla and I don't understand why. I mean if you're not happy with the Vanilla gameplay anymore, just install a couple of mods that will fix the holes, but don't act all holier-than-thou if you play Vanilla and are not happy with it...

Anyway, to be honest I'm not sure where I was going at with this thread, maybe I just wanted to let it out there :)

I personal dont see minecraft as a game much any more, More of a start of one a basis that other people can create grate content on it and can be configured highly to your liking. I also think Jeb and that are heading in the wrong direction with hoppers and so on and should concentrate on the smaller things of MC (like adding coral reefs and other small ambiances of it)

I kind of have to agree with you there. In vanilla, I'd rather see more thick juicy content like more potions and mobs like the wither, maybe even some new dimensions. Something more adventurous and go the direction the game was going for a while. I don't want to see things that mods have created that should have been put in the game the first time they released and are now being added.
