I was watching a random Youtube video a while back and the guy had to make a couple of encoded patterns so he wouldn't have to build some things manually. He typed the item in the NEI box, looked at the items recipe, then he pressed something (I don't know and cant figure it out) and it put the pattern in the Pattern Encoder box on the left (Not the ghost pattern from pressing the [?]) and pressed encode without ever placing anything in the input box to the left. How did he do this? The ae-mod.info doesn't mention this.

Thanks for your time!

It's NEI. If you shift-click a "?" button, it auto-fills the recipe.

Learn to love the shift-click "?", it's a great shortcut. Especially with the AE Crafting Terminal, I barely feel the need for autocrafting.

If you mean the (arguably cheaty) encoding patterns without actually having the items in your inventory, that's from NEI Addons.
