I have searched for how to set a custom resolution for Minecraft since the 1.6.4 modpacks came out. All that I found in this forum is that it doesn't work with 1.6.4.

If you go to the Minecraft folder for the modpack you play (for me it is C:\Users\********\Desktop\FTB\Direwolf20_1_6_4\minecraft) there is a file called options.txt. Inside of it there are two lines that allow you to set a custom resolution:

overrideWidth:0
overrideHeight:0

Using these to set a custom resolution works. You still can't start the game auto-maximized :(

I hope this helps.

Even with the JVM Arguments I get stuttering when I play maximized. Doesn't make sense to me though, my computer is very capable.

Indeed +1 for info. I found that many users on win 8.1 face a very strange problem (Minecraft and other JVM games): mouse sensitivity goes crazy, camera starts spinning and finally switches to the floor. It took some time to find at least any solution and finally I understood that in my case there's one thing: full-screen + res not more than 1366x768. Thus unfortunately there's no GUI to adjust the resolution neither in my TEKKIT launcher nor in minecraft. So, thank you PHSexperience :)

UPD: unfortunately that can adjust windowed res only... So still have to find out something

UPD2: ta da... Solved. And you know what helped? So simple. I deleted the GPUs from the system and installed the latest Nvidia drivers.
