Yes, you have to disable it yourself. With the exception of PFAA, GregTech actually prioritizes it over its own ore gen.

Are there any news from the author of this modpack? It doesn't seem like he's been active in quite a few months

It's just the fact that the reactor needs only one output, having more of them doesn't serve any purpose.
