Can I take upgrades out of Gregtech machines? Also can I somehow see what upgrade got applied to a gregtech machine?

Using FTB Ultimate, I want to know if there is some mod that allows the construction of a card-reader+a card, upon using the card on the card reader the reader emits a redstone signal, possible?(I want to make some sort of 'restricted access' like thing for a metal door)

Nerfing their energy production explains the smaller output, but what about the increase in hullheat(it 'was' a Mark I reactor)? Well I gonna look at that changelog tomorrow since I gonna sleep now and maybe there is a more accurate answer then!
