Each computer can only see themselves on the network, there are other devices connected to the network also so its not just each other that they can't see. I'm not sure what DHCP is

Uhm, the host computer has W7 ultimate and the laptop is running on W7 home premium. Both of them have firewall disabled and they both have no anti-virus :/
