I know right now Pam is working on making the tools actual blocks/some other things. Once shes done that she might work on making items blocks but if you know anyone who can do modeling that might help convince her to look into it.
Have you ever looked at Quiverbow( http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1292078-quiverbow-ranged-weaponry-thought-up-by-steve )? I found it quite fun and capable of varying up combat when messing with it in Resonant Rise.
